The Standard, Hua Hin ★★★★★

The Standard Hua Hin is a beautifully designed, tropical escape. Even though it's within walking distance of all of Hua Hin's amenities, it's a quiet and peaceful oasis. The staff are incredible and so helpful and friendly. Both restaurants offer some of the best food within Hua Hin and the buffet breakfast is outstanding. Our villa was quiet, beautifully designed (so, so stylish – feels a bit mid-century Palm Springs) and had its own mini pool. The main pool area is great, with loungers overlooking the sea or pool. The pool bar team are so helpful and friendly and the poolside menu offers Thai food and American style salads, burgers and tacos. A really superb stay. The spa is beautiful and the technicians really know their stuff.

Only one tiny gripe is that the gym was really small, so had to queue for equipment and there were too many kids in the pool, so swimming laps was tricky.

Peaceful atmosphere

The place was amazing! The staff are super friendly and it is clean and comfortable. The service was great and fast. The whole place was just super relaxing and fun. The pool was also a good size.

The fake bird sounds are a bit unusual. And it is pretty expensive for food there.

What we loved: - We stayed in a high floor king room in the main building which is perfect for a couple. Private, good rain shower, comfy bed, decent AC (we always wear earplugs), in room speaker and overall great value for money. - Praca restaurant is outstanding. Great Thai food, probably the best place to eat in Hua Hin. - The beach bar which is attached is also great for a sundowner overlooking the ocean. - There is a small gym if you want a short workout, but a much larger empty function room which would be better. - We stayed for Xmas and the Xmas dinner served in Lido was exceptional. We were really impressed with the selection and free flow drinks ⭐️

What needs improving: - Pool bar / sun loungers / training of staff / service - The pool bar is a shambles. Understaffed, the roles are confusing, they give you a buzzer to call for service but they never actually come over when you use it. There is nowhere designated to take orders so it feels like a free for all in a nightclub. There is no water available - this would be solved with a simple help yourself tank on the bar which the staff can easily fill. They have been out of coconuts the whole 4 days we have been here… we are in Thailand?! The staff walk around the bar with their heads down as they are too busy to serve you. Some training and more management would go a long way here. - We were questioned on 2 seperate occasions about bills / items we had ordered when in fact they had forgotten a drink. We were asked to pay for Xmas meal online to reserve our booking (we didn’t question this however thought it was unnecessary given we were guests at the hotel). After our lunch they brought us a bill, which we found unprofessional and as we looked around most were paying on the day, so we we’re a little confused as to why we were not trusted to do the same. - Breakfast is lovely, buffet style etc with great selection. The staffs primary job is to seat you, lay cutlery and take eggs / coffee orders. We had to ask 3 times for coffee waiting 30 mins. - Towels / sun lounger situation is infuriating. It’s that place where people lay towels at 7am. There should be a pool boy, in charge of towels, 1 per guest, to stop this. I have stayed in many hotels where this is the norm and it stops the ‘claiming of beds’ for whole families when most are still in bed. I am currently sitting here at 9:30am and all loungers / beds are ‘taken’ but I only see 10 people actually here. - Anybody can walk in and pay 800 baht to use the pool area, which we think is madness given the hotel is full and guests already do not have anywhere to lay.

Nice hotel, well designed, good location very clean and comfortable with friendly staff and a good breakfast. We had a first floor garden view villa that was very good. Highly recommended.

The vibe and design of this place as well as the staff was outstanding. Location was great too. Easy walk to night market, fish restaurants and quick taxi rides to shopping centres as well as cicada market. We all including the kids had an amazing time
